The first part of this is a hydro race on Paw Paw Lake – launching from Uncle Louie’s property (toward the end of the boat race scene there are boats also launching from Aunt Rosaleen’s beach – you can see the newly built house (Overson’s / now Hal’s) and you can see Dad’s cottage on the hill in the background.
I don’t remember the race at all. Because Overson’s wasn’t built until about 1960, I’m guessing it was early 60s.
I’m guessing Dad took these scenes. Or maybe Chuck or Nick the scenes are longer and steadier than when we younger kids had the movie camera.
After the boat race, there is a long scene at an air show. All smaller and/or homemade planes. I have no idea where or when. Perhaps Lewis University, which had an air field.
Or else the small airfield that was around 135 & Cicero.
I’ve heard stories that mom’s cousin – Eugene Veras- had a biplane, and he flew into that airport and took some of the Pater family up in it. So maybe that’s what the event is.
Eugene also built an experimental airplane -called a Polywog because of it’s shape – in the basement of his home in Missouri. Not sure if it ever flew.
The last part of the video is a long scene driving along a major river. I’m guessing it is the Mississippi, and we are driving south along the Illinois border…
