Kiki's Notebook - Fun - A "Canterbury" Tale of St. Nicholas

This was written in the Middle English style of the "Canterbury Tales" by Chaucer for my high school senior honors English class.

In every city, in every nation,
There is a wight who hath a high station.
He, or she, hath many names; all refer
To a seeker of Crist, a kind giver
Of lovely gifts to all the good children
An a giver of coal to the bad kin.
Tales telle of his sondry transportation
He useth to get to each location.
The time whan he doth make his varied rounds
Is one more account whiche in books resounds.
Still other stories telle of his array
Which differs with the place he doth stay.
Some say he's short; some say he's fat; some telle
Of his whit beerd an of his hors's belle.
Some say he wears rede an some say, nay, he
Wears blak, but all agree: he's a jolly,
Friendly fellow with a generous heart
An so charming an so clever an smart.
But do not forget his faithful helpers:
His thinkers an tinkers an messengers.
We must give everichoon their rightful due
For on his list of help is me an you!
